I’ve got some great news…
This article isn’t about the election, coronavirus, or Congress.
Even better, it’s about something that’s massively significant to your life, my life, and the fabric of America’s freedom. And it’s also about the top issue on Trump’s mind this week.
How do I know?
It’s not from Twitter or the news — but rather from the most significant communications channel still at Trump’s disposal: his executive orders.
Trump has issued not one… not two… but three executive orders aimed at an emergency improvement of America’s 5G.
I’ll sum it up for you:
- Our current cell networks and critical infrastructure are vulnerable to spyware threats from China.
- As a response, America’s networks need an immediate upgrade to a new, secure 5G standard.
- And the Pentagon is instructed to give a very big gift to America’s 5G companies to achieve the security we need.
This “gift” is the midband spectrum of radio bandwidth.
Please allow me to explain why this is such a big deal.
Trump Tells the Pentagon: Release the Midband!
The midband is the “fat” area of bandwidth — the spot where it’s the easiest to send larger amounts of information with higher levels of accuracy. Both of these advantages allow for increased encryption and security over the airwaves.
But up to this point, it’s been completely off-limits to private American cell companies.
You see, back during World War II, the Pentagon reserved the midband entirely for the Navy. America had just started building aircraft carriers, and the thinking was that an aircraft carrier needed to send enormous amounts of information as fast as possible. Which makes sense if you consider all the planes on the carrier’s decks and the other nearby ships in the fleet.
Fast-forward to today and advances in military technology have made the midband much less essential for the Navy. They barely use it now. Yet America’s generals have remained hesitant about letting it go.
U.S. telecommunications companies have been lobbying for decades without any luck, even though it would be a boon for private communications. It’s classic stodgy Pentagon thinking.
So why is Trump issuing a direct order forcing them to finally release this bandwidth?
The answer: China.
China Beat America to Midband 5G
China’s military has always reserved the midband spectrum as well, for the same reasons as the Pentagon.
That is… until just a short while ago.
On December 18, 2018, China made a dramatic announcement: Its military would no longer be using this bandwidth, and almost all of it would be used for 5G.
They immediately began deployment of the most advanced cellphone network the world has ever seen.
China had more than a year’s head start putting up towers that use this midband area of bandwidth, and it’s one of the reasons why China was able to leapfrog its way into capabilities that are so far beyond ours.
Trump has decided that enough is enough.
America Is Finally Catching up — and in a Hurry
United States Chief Technology Officer Michael Kratsios said, “In the information age, the nation that leads the world in wireless technology wins. To keep America’s edge, we must accelerate our development and deployment of 5G.”
Kratsios went on to say that the midband spectrum was the “critical component” to building a network that can guarantee America’s national security.
Trump’s new executive order ensures that the U.S. cell industry will finally get what it needs to complete the upgrade and keep China off America’s airwaves.
And the military has more gifts to offer…
Trump’s other orders have instructed America’s military bases to make every resource available to test 5G technology. The order also asked the Department of Defense to pony up $600 million to make it happen as quickly as possible.
A DOD press release says: “The Department of Defense is at the forefront of cutting-edge 5G testing and experimentation, which will strengthen our nation’s warfighting capabilities as well as U.S. economic competitiveness in this critical field.”
In short, we’re witnessing a technological unshackling that’s far beyond what we saw with the rollouts of 3G and 4G — and it’s going to happen in record time.
A Few 5G Companies Will Outperform the Rest
As you can imagine, the news of this midband release is going to be especially beneficial to the handful of U.S. 5G companies that have the tech for this new midband infrastructure. If you’ve ever wanted to invest in 5G but didn’t know where to start, then this is the moment you’ve been waiting for.
My colleague Jimmy Mengel has spent the last few months researching this topic, and he’s just released his list of companies with the patents and tech know-how to turn this midband rollout into a reality.
This emergency 5G rollout is going to create a lot of winners — Trump and the Pentagon are making sure of it! I highly recommend watching Jimmy’s video report while you still can.
In the meantime, I hope you have a great holiday season, and you can look forward to a new, enhanced 5G future that’ll be arriving soon.
